Minister Givan announces proposals for professionalising the private rented sector in Northern Ireland

The long awaited proposals from the Department for Communities concerning the private rented sector have been released. In the detailed document released last week, Minister Givan sets out a very clear plan to continue to professionalise the sector, ensuring the private rented sector is well managed, affordable and secure for tenants and landlords alike.

Within the paper, there are a number of changes, including to tenancy deposit protection regulations. The main recommendation is to bring all tenancies into the ambit of the tenancy deposit protection. This, along with the other proposals detailed, will make the scheme work better and give greater security for tenants and landlords. It is a position we welcome.

The 80 page document sets out the recommendations and invites comments on the direction indicated before 3 April 2017.
